Collingdale PA Wedding - End of the Evening

It was the end of the evening and I wanted a picture commemorating me and my husband working together for the first time at a wedding.  He was my second shooter and to both of our surprises we worked well together - really well. We have bumped heads before with household projects, each insisting that we do it our own way. But yesterday was soooo smooth and easy. We were like PB & J, french fries & ketchup, cake & ice cream - a perfect combination.

He was there to help me through the bumps - like when we had only 25 minutes for all portraits. He hopped right in arranging people so we could get through them quickly. And a savior by doing impromptu shots up the street from the hall when we had to stall the couple entrance while they set up the room and I got shots of the reception and cocktail hour. He also made sure I drank water through out the day and had trail mix and energy bars so I didn't run myself down. What a sweetie.

Team work really does make the dream work.

Thanks Roe!

Don't we look tired and happy after a long 8 hours.

Thanks to Tricia sister of the bride for taking the shot.

Shoot the Shot Workshop with Isabel March

I just happened to stumble upon Isabel March's photography blog when I  did a random google one morning. Immediately I saw headlined her Shoot the Shot workshop at the fabulous Elkins Estate. It seemed fortuitous that I would stumble upon her workshop at this stage in my photography career and that it would be practically in my backyard. My mind started working as to what scheduling strings I would have to pull to attend the workshop. I was worried that I was too late in learning about it to register in time. But I was lucky on all fronts and it was able to happen for me, and I am so blessed that it did.

The workshop not only encompassed a half a day of shooting a mock wedding but also a whole talk on running a photography business. Starting a photography business can be tough and sometimes you feel like you are going at it all alone. And it felt comforting to hear Isabel's testimony of her own beginnings and experience and to learn that others in the business are having the same challenges as me. I also walked away totally inspired and motivated to take my business to the next level through not only the growth of my photography skills but also my business management skills.  Added bonus I met an AWESOME group of fellow photographers (I am not alone anymore!).

I see big things ahead for Girl Photography and I like to thank Isabel for giving me the inspiration to get out there and JUST DO IT!

And how can I not like a lady who loves moist cakey goodness as much as me. She had me at "We are going to eat cake today." And she does pretty packaging. Were we separated at birth?

I was also tickled that I shot the whole day with my 35 and 50 mm. I am a prime girl all the way!

Pet Adoption Day at Northern Liberties Piazza

My husband has his heart set on us adding a little doggie to our family. The only problem is  his idea of a little doggie is a retriever or lab and my idea is a spaniel. We have gone to a breeder for Cavalier Spaniels  and I fell in love with the little guys. And even though my husband loved them too he is still campaigning for lab/retriever. But frankly our dog adoption is on hold till we have more time. Both of us our extremely busy right now with our businesses that we don't have the proper time needed to raise a puppy right and give it all the love and attention it deserves. Also I am nervous that my little friend Donnie, my faithful feline companion of 13 years may be put out with someone else needing center stage.  So our doggie dreams our on hold for now.

But that doesn't mean we still don't love to look.

These little guys captivated and stole Roes heart. You know I got the hard press about adopting them.

The little guy on the left was going to all the cages and spilling out the water bowls. Naughty!

Free dog treats offered by my friend Tara from Avery's Pet Styling Salon and Boutique.

I didn't forget my feline friends.

Gwendolyn's New Born Session

This past weekend I got the opportunity to shoot Gwendolyn who is new and fresh to the world. Shooting newborns makes me awestruck at the miracle and blessing of life.

And this has to be one of my favorite photos to date so I am excited to share it with you.

More to come. I pinky swear promise.

A day on the Piazza - Part I

Saturday Roe and I enjoyed the sights and sounds of the Piazza in Northern Liberties. We were there for Pet Adoption Day (more on that in part 2) but we also enjoyed their weekly farmer's market. I love the farmer's market where everything is so fresh and wholesome. It reminds me of when I was a girl and going out on the daily shopping trips with my grandma. My grandma didn't go to the supermarket, instead each day she would visit the butcher or the fish man or the vegetable grocer. The market harkens back to when you shopped with shop keepers that specialized in getting the freshest and best of a particular food item. Plus at the market you are buying local and keeping dollars within the community.

The other great thing about the farmer's market on the Piazza is that it is located near Brown Betty Boutique where I can indulge in my love for moist cakey goodness. Yuuuuuuuummmmmmm.

Roe went crazy with the make your own snack mix and they had toffee covered cashews - OMG a taste of heaven.

Of course I had to get a half a dozen cupcakes (and yes I did share with my husband).

Nicola and Hugh Engagement Session at the Art Museum

Nicola and Hugh will be getting married in less than 2 weeks and I am probably as anxious as they are. I have been with Nicola through her bridal shower, her engagement session and I get to witness the culmination of her bridal journey to the alter.  At the engagement session I finally got to meet Hugh and he is quite a character. He is subtlety funny and I don't know how we are going to pry his cell phone away from him the day of the wedding. He is also a good sport because it was windy and chilly that day at the Art Museum and I know his Jamaican bones were freezing.

Here's to Nicola and Hugh. And you will be seeing more of the happy couple next month after their wedding.
